Today was blustery – like Winnie-The-Pooh kind of blustery where Piglet almost gets blown away from the 100 acre wood. At first I zipped up my coat a little higher and tried to hide from it, but then I thought, “You know what? I’m here on this earth, healthy, happy, and I can feel the wind on my face and it is beautiful!” So I lifted my eyes up and embraced the chill, planning all the while to try and figure out how to shoot wind….do I go down to the beach and catch the waves? a lone seagull drifting for the pure pleasure of it? In the end I decided to take a portrait – more of a moving still. I wanted to freeze GG’s friend’s gorgeous hair as it was whipped about, so after a good playdate we headed outside to snap a few frames.
Of course by then the wind had died to a whisper and the light was fading fast. I shot 3 images in the twilight and thought, “oh well, I still have the grapefruit (more on that tomorrow)”, and headed in to make dinner and forget all about editing. Later, once the kids were asleep, I loaded up this shot and smiled a Cheshire Cat kind of grin. No. I didn’t catch the wind, what I caught was a beautiful girl, full of love and light. She is GG’s best friend and I am so grateful to have her and her mom Jenn, my closest friend here in Victoria, in our lives.
365 Grateful – Day 3. I am grateful for friendships and little girls that grow so fast and strong and become better everyday.
