You know that feeling when you wake up and you just know that something wonderful is going to happen? Or that thrill that comes when you take a bite of a gorgeous cupcake and find it tastes even more delicious than it looks? That’s what it was like shooting Aisha and Kitaro. From the moment I saw them I just got so excited – they’re both beautiful and so photogenic it’s just crazy, but aside from that, they’re the sweetest couple EVER! And the nicest. Aisha showed up with home-made coffee cake that she’d baked for us – I swear I searched our website and nowhere does it say coffee cake is James’ favourite food on the planet. How did she know? And she’s not just handy in the kitchen, she’s also the incredibly talented, creative force behind the lovely Starfish and the Sea jewellery line. I couldn’t help but ooh and ahh over every piece Aisha was wearing – all of which she designed and created herself. Everything, that is, except the insanely beautiful engagement ring gracing her hand – that’s Kitaro’s touch. And it’s sooooo pretty!
Our second stop in the LA sessions was one of the funnest, craziest spots in the City of Angels. I loved shooting these Venice Beach engagement photos! I mean really…where else can you randomly borrow an unbelievable mint, vintage Schwinn tandem bicycle from some folks making a music video? Or shoot where the graffiti meets the sand? And those who follow this blog know both my obsession with mirrors as well as sunglasses – no need to explain how happy I am with the last shot in this series. Oh! and apparently Kitaro got his first tattoo from the parlour featured here which, given my obsession with ink, makes me doubly happy that they chose to shoot the images that mark such a huge step in their lives in the same location. I’m just thrilled and honoured to be mixed into such memories.
Thank you, Aisha and Kitaro, for such a fun afternoon. You were great sports, braving the bicycle straight off and being up for anything I threw at you! I wish you two all the happiness in the world which I know will always come your way – and Aisha, we’ll be sure to stay in touch as I think I may need a new necklace…and earrings…and bracelet….
